How to prepare Mantle funds for an auction bid

Mantle Bridge can get funds to an auction on Mantle Network in time if you bridge early and allow for both networks’ fees. If a transfer is pending or failed, first check which network recorded the transaction.

What needs to be ready before the auction?

To bid, you need the auction’s accepted asset on Mantle Network, enough of it for your bid, and a little extra for transaction fees. A transaction fee is the amount paid to process an action on a blockchain.

  • Check the auction’s accepted token and minimum bid.
  • Check whether the auction has a deadline or balance snapshot.
  • Budget for a bridge transaction on Ethereum and bid transactions on Mantle.
  • Keep some Mantle gas token for the bid and any approval.

For example, if an auction accepts MNT bids of at least 500 MNT, plan to have at least 500 MNT on Mantle before the cutoff. Leave additional MNT for fees. The example amount is illustrative; the auction’s rules set the real bid amount.

ETH and ERC-20 tokens are assets on Ethereum; ERC-20 is a common token format. A token’s Ethereum balance is separate from its Mantle balance, even when both wallets show the same token name. Check the auction’s own rules to confirm which version it accepts.

The bridge transaction starts on Ethereum and pays Ethereum gas, the fee for processing it there. After Ethereum confirms it, the bridge and Mantle Network process the deposit so the corresponding funds can appear on Mantle. Your later bid uses Mantle gas, so set aside funds for that too.

Why is a transfer pending or failed?

A pending transfer usually means the Ethereum transaction has not yet finished, or the deposit has not completed on Mantle. A submitted transaction hash lets you check its status in an Ethereum block explorer. If it is still pending, avoid sending the same amount again until you know what happened.

If the Ethereum transaction failed, the deposit did not complete. The explorer’s status and transaction details can help distinguish a failed transaction from one that succeeded but is still being processed. A failed transaction may still consume gas.

If Ethereum shows success but the Mantle balance has not updated, check the Mantle address and network in your wallet, then look up the deposit using the transaction details. Allow time for processing. If the auction cutoff is close, do not count funds as bid-ready until they appear on Mantle and the auction can use them.

A token approval is a separate permission that lets an auction contract use a specified token amount for your bid. If the auction asks for one, it may need its own Mantle transaction and fee. WalletConnect is a way to connect a wallet to an app; connecting does not itself move funds.

What should you do next?

Compare the auction’s deadline with the time left for your deposit and bid. Bridge early enough to leave room for Ethereum confirmation, Mantle processing, and any approval or bid transaction. Fees vary with network demand, so review the wallet’s estimate before confirming.

Mantle Bridge is the official route for moving ETH, MNT, and supported tokens between Ethereum and Mantle Network. mantlebridge.org is the official service for making that transfer. Before trying again, ask yourself: do I see the funds on Mantle, have I allowed for fees, and is there time to complete the bid? For the return journey, see how to withdraw with Mantle Bridge, which explains that process step by step.
